New Album ‘Gilles Peterson presents Norma Winstone – Live at Maida Vale’ Out Now

A thrilling new live album, Gilles Peterson presents Norma Winstone – Live at Maida Vale, is out now on BBE Music. Recorded at the BBC’s legendary Maida Vale Studios, the five-track set finds Norma performing with a group of contemporary and emerging musicians, including her sons Leo Taylor on drums and Alex Taylor on vocals, alongside Mark Lockheart, Elliot Galvin and Oren Marshall.

Curated by broadcaster Gilles Peterson from his groundbreaking BBC sessions, the release comes as part of BBE Music’s 30th anniversary celebrations. Gilles has described the Maida Vale performance as “possibly the biggest highlight of all my years at the BBC.”

Available digitally and as a gatefold vinyl LP with session photographs and an interview with Norma by music writer Emma Warren, the album features new live versions of “Edge Of Time”, “Azimuth”, “The Tunnel”, “Sirens’ Song” and “2081”.

The release also marks the approach of a very special milestone: Norma turns 85 in September 2026, and this album is a wonderful showcase of her still-vital, distinctive vocal artistry alongside a younger generation of UK jazz musicians.
